PodCulture Presents: Stargate Louisville Salutes Don S. Davis

Posted on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Brad and Christina take a week off from PodCulture, and dust off the Stargate Louisville podcast and join friends and fans in remembering a dear part of the sci-fi community, actor Don S. Davis.

Whether you knew him as Scully’s dad on The X-Files, Major Garland Briggs on Twin Peaks or as General George S. Hammond on Stargate: SG1, fans were treated with a brilliant and heartfelt performance in everything Don did.

We had the distinct privilege of meeting Don at Dragon*Con two ago, and the genuine kindness of his man became a favorite memory of the trip. He was so happy to sit and chat with us, sign autographs and answer questions. A brilliant storyteller, consummate actor, and immeasurable footprint has been swept from us. May he be just on the other side of The Event Horizon, just waiting with smiles and jokes to share.

Please join us as we share clips from past convention panels, and some of our memories. We would also like to thank the listeners who have shared their stories with us (and you) as well.

Should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don’s memory.

Rest in peace, General Hammond

Posted on Monday, June 30th, 2008
Don S. Davis, our beloved General Hammond from SG1, has passed away due to a heart attack on June 29, 2008. God speed, Don, and rest in peace.

As long-time listeners to the show may know Christina and I used to host a short-lived podcast called Stargate Louisville. I want to open the iris on that show one more time and would like to do a tribute show for Don. To make this even more of a tribute I would like YOUR help. If you have a special memory of meeting him at a convention, or a favorite moment from the show, please let us know in your own words. You can record something and email it to me: Brad (at) PodCulture.net or call the voicemail line at 206-338-3763, and leave it there.

I’d like to get this out and on the feed as soon as possible. Prob not the next episode of PodCulture (show 111) due out Wed 7/2) but the following one (due out 7/9).

Peace,
Brad

PodCulture 42: Goodnight Ninja

Posted on Sunday, April 8th, 2007

After a silent week in respect for the passing of our friend and fellow podcaster, Joe Murphy, The Culture Crew returns to pay one more tribute.

A very special Geek Cuisine incorporates two of Joe’s favorite sources of sugar. We’ve got four varieties of root beer: Thomas Kemper, Hank’s, Stewarts, and Abita. Combine those with the fantastic Australian Violet Crumble candy bar, and you can practically hear our teeth ache!

Our musical guests for this tribute are two of Joe’s favorite geeky songs, Skullcrusher Mountain from the fabulous Jonathan Coulton, and Scott Bakula by Sunspot Music.

Finally, a song written especially in Joe’s honor. Enjoy Mason Rocket by the band, Beatnik Turtles.

We’ll be back next week with our normal doses of geektainment.
