PodCulture 157: Revenge of the Geeking

Posted on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

We welcome Ashlee back into the studio for our Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen preview and review special!

We fill our engines with a round of Geek Cuisine including Transformers Strawberry Peanut Butter M & Ms!

The five geeks discuss the first Transformers movie, including what they loved and what they hated. What are they looking forward to in Revenge of The Fallen? Will Michael Bay live up to his reputation? Will it suffer from Christina’s feared “Middle Movie Syndrome”? Brad and Adam discuss Devestator and the toys that will follow with this movie.

Next comes the Geeking and Telling interlude, where Brad shows off his newest shiny Transformer toys including Rollbar, Knockout, the bi-plane Ransack, Soundwave and Skidz.

In Revenge of Geek Cuisine, the gang enjoys Snickers Nougabot bars!

RED ALERT – TOTAL SPOILER WARNING!! If you wish to remain spoiler-free, skip from the 31 minute mark, and join us next week! If you wish to brave the review fray, find out what annoyed Christina, what impressed Adam, and what made Brad cringe. Will it pass Ashlee’s crash test, or become a Guilty Pleasure of Glenn’s? Find out why we gave it a collective “C-grade”. Tell us what you think! Give us your review in a voicemail, or an e-mail, and we’ll share it on the show!

PodCulture 155: Beware of Low Flying Sharks – Part B

Posted on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

The PodCulture Crew is without Christina this week, but the guys welcome our favorite guests Ashlee and Andy (aka Freehold South, aka our Number One Groupie).

They open this week with soda….don’t get the airsick bags out just yet Jones fans, it’s Mountain Dew Game Fuel! Not one, but two flavors of World of Warcraft Dew.  What makes Ashlee say “tastes like ass”? Will poor Adam’s iPod make it through another segment? Do you have suggestions for Geek Cuisine Labs? E-mail us with your weirdest recipe!

Glenn inflicts his special brand of pain on the crew once more with Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus! How does Debbie Gibson’s acting career stand up to her recording career, and is Lorenzo Lamas still as bad as actor as we remember? And yes, listeners, it’s available on Netflix!

Speaking of Geek Cuisine Labs, when the gang returns from the commercial, they’re mixing their poisons and dabbling in combined flavors of Mountain Dew.

There be geekin’ and there be tellin’. Brad’s got his usual giant pile of awesome. He’s got Marvel Minimates of Cloak and Dagger, the translucent Hal Jordan and a Sinestro figure, a DC Super Friends Cyborg figure, DC Superfriends Batman plush figure, and a Heroes of the DC Universe Mini-bust of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. Ashlee shares a piece of Twilec art she’s made!

Final thoughts include the Buffy Comic series, Dollhouse and The JossVerse. Brad shares that he and Christina have been watching Castle with the Filliontastic Nathan. Glenn’s looking forward to the next big summer blockbuster films, including Transformers, and G. I. Joe. Brad is aprehensive about Terminator: Salvation, so Adam, Glenn and Ashlee warn him ahead of time. Adam and Ashlee threaten and urge us all to see Disney/Pixar’s Up. Andy is going to be catching up on dvds and getting into the Lord of the Rings MMORPG, and talks about the recently published Tolkien novel.

Promos come graciously from The Ninth: A Heroes netcast, The British Invaders Podcast, The Parsec Awards, and our very own The GeekSpin!

PodCulture 154: Beware of Low Flying Sharks – Part A

Posted on Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

The PodCulture Crew is one Christina short, but the boys welcome Ashlee and Andy in the studio this week!

Glenn begins this week’s episode of geek revelry, and when he hasn’t been putting together his new grill, he’s been flaming his opponents in World of Warcraft. Adam has been enjoying some time off from work, and is catching up on games and movies. Andy’s channeling Alice Cooper and doing the “School’s Out” dance of joy! Ashlee has been to Kings Island, and is working on her pottery art. What is Glenn using to stave off the zombie apocalypse? The answer will surprise you! While Brad is no longer editing The Babylon Podcast and Kick Ass Mystic Ninjas, he is working hard at his day job, and experimenting on the sites for The Dollhouse Podcast and BradBowyer.com.

The gang talk about E3, and the games they’ve been playing. They anticipate Left 4 Dead 2, which leads to a discussion about easter eggs in games, and downloadable content expanding the game experience, as in Fable 2. Everyone’s looking forward to the sequel to Bioshock. Brad’s picked up Sonic’s Ultimate Collection, and they talk about the Sega Genesis and the FC3 console. Ashlee discusses Project Natel, and the gang anticipates the Star Wars RPG to come. Ashlee is heartbroken at the sequel to Knights of the Republic, and enjoyed her foray into Christina’s Little Big Planet. Adam has played the demo for Infamous and has found it quite cool, as well as Killzone 2. They poll each other as to which console controllers are superior. What do you think? Let us know! Listen to find out what games each of the Culture Crew have chosen as old-school favorites. Brad is exceptionally excited about Tatsunoko vs Capcom!

We kick the can old school with Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback.

Promos come graciously from Can’t Stop the Serenity, and The Babylon Podcast
