PodCulture 152: My Snickers Is Leaking – Part A

Posted on Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Welcome, Podlings! The Crew would love to thank Ashlee for joining us!

Glenn opens this week with tales of Wonderfest! Adam’s been working on art for The Bellflower, and looks forward to enjoying the Star Trek films he got on blu-ray. He reminds us that the Filliontastic Castle has been renewed, as has Chuck, Heroes and Dollhouse. Christina’s sinuses are trying to kill her, but she managed to watch the premiere  of So You Think You Can Dance, despite her dislike for one of the judges. She’s deep in the trenches of her games on Facebook, so if you’re on, send her a request (with PodCulture in the subject, so she knows you’re a listener!)

Brad, Glenn and Christina discuss the season finale of Lost, so if you wish to remain spoiler free, you can skip from the twelve minute mark. What do you think? Email us, or call the voicemail!

Geek Cuisine is the Rockin’ Nut Road Snickers bar. Find out if it really satisfies!

Glenn gets his Geek and Tell on with Don’t Panic: The Official Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Companion by Neil Gaiman and The Mystery Science Theater Amazing Colossal Episode Guide. Christina shows off her trade paperback of  Battle Pope. Brad adds Invincible Ultimate Collection vol 4, Classic Transformers vol 1, Cloak and Dagger: Child of Darkness, Child of Light, and the Superman: Emperor Joker trade paperback. The boys talk about the Star Trek: Countdown graphic novel, and Christina gives a mini review of the film. Amber Benson graces Brad and Christina’s bookshelf, with her novel, Death’s Daughter.

Our shiny promos this week are from The Signal, Future Traditions, and British Invaders.

PodCulture 151: Colored Unicorn Balls

Posted on Thursday, May 21st, 2009

We open this week’s geekstravaganza, missing our Glenn-shaped co-host, but ready to get nerdy!

Adam has his computer back, and is clocking his new quad core to the max! Christina is addicted to Mafia Wars and Vampires on her iPhone and Facebook, and Space Wars and Pirates on Facebook (if you play, drop her an e-mail, and join her crews!) Brad was blown away by the Dollhouse finale, and he and Christina wish Glenn was there to discuss the season cliffhanger for Lost. The boys talk about the Star Trek prequel graphic novel, and the illusive Bad Robot.

Christina hops back down the bunny trail, and presents edible easter grass Geek Cuisine.

Thank you so very much to our Number One Groupie, Andy, for his voicemailed views of Star Trek!

Ashlee and Glenn return to talk some shop. Glenn has seen the Watchmen Motion Comic, and Brad anticipates the animated Green Lantern movie. Brad and Christina have watched Next Avengers, and they discuss whether or not to buy animated movies on Blu-Ray. They’ve watched The Hulk, and enjoyed it, despite some creative liberties. Glenn and Ashlee have seen Wolverine, and the gang discusses how it treated Deadpool. Adam’s been watching the Nathan Fillion-tastic Castle.

(Disclaimer: We’d like to apologize for the frackedness of Adam’s microphone)

Brad discusses streaming media from the pc to devices like the 360 or the PS3. When Ashlee hasn’t been busy making geeky pottery for her friends, she’s watched Fanboys, Wolverine, Watchmen. With her friends, she’s seen the G.I. Joe cartoons, Wonderwoman, the Hulk Versus movies, and Brad tries to get her to watch Dollhouse. Ashlee has also been inducted into the smegging world of Red Dwarf!

We welcome Adam’s mic back to the land of the living, and he and Ashlee discuss Left 4 Dead and Halo on the PC versus the 360. She’s addicted to both Peggle and Scrabble, and the boys immediately take it to the basement level!

In the second round of Geek Cuisine, Glenn and Ashlee enjoy the hippity hoppity Edible Easter Grass. Will they live to tell the tale?

Promos come from Mur Lafferty, with her upcoming novel Heaven: War. and The Parsec Awards!

PodCulture 150: Star Trek – Boldly Geeking

Posted on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

The prodigal geek returns, and the entire PodCulture crew is back for its 150th episode!

Glenn’s goes from the run for the roses in Derby 135 back to grinding for gold in World of Warcraft. They discuss the idea of multiple accounts, and expanding content in games like WOW and City of Heroes. Adam’s got the newest levels in Left 4 Dead, and is mourning the death of his computer. It’s untimely demise is even worse timing, since Adam is back working on CGI for The Bellflower and Battlestar Diaspora. Christina’s been running her sackboy ragged in Little Big Planet, and healing her wounds with House. She’s found the world of MMO RPG games for the iPhone, and is addicted to Epic Pet Wars, iMobsters, Vampires Live and Kindoms Live. Brad’s exploring Windows 7, and toying with the new version of Ubuntu. The pair talk about the less-than-stellar service they had a TGI Friday’s on Derby Day.

The gang discuss their expectations about Star Trek. Will this reboot be able to fill the giant sci-fi shoes of Transformers and the sleek Armani suit of James Bond? Christina chides William Shatner, and they discuss their fears and hopes for the franchise.

After Big Spock Star by The Great Luke Ski, the group returns from seeing Star Trek in the theater, with one excpetion. The female piece of the quartet has been wonderfully filled in by Stunt-Christina (aka Ashlee)!

SPOILER WARNING-If you have not yet seen the movie, and wish to remain spoiler free, please bid us farewell at the 37 minute mark, and join us again next week. If you decide to stay, hang on to your tricorder, you’re in for a ride! They guys discuss everything from sound design to costumes, from the bridge to stern. There are opinions from the guys who were just barely blinked into existence when the original went off the air, those from Ashlee, who had the least to compare with, and from Adam who is smack dab in the middle. Find out why Glenn was disappointed, why Brad was annoyed, and what problem they blame high def dvds for. Find out who loved it, and whose tribbles were troubled.

Thank you for listening, and live long and podcast!
