PodCulture 129: Thanksgeeking Leftovers

Posted on Sunday, November 30th, 2008

We welcome Ashlee back from Vancouver, and enjoy our PodCulture Thanksgiving leftovers!

Glenn had to be up to film the Black Friday craziness from his helicopter and Adam had food poisoning from the day before, so they’re both happy with Thanksgiving being through.

Banana Split Cream Oreo cookies are the first confectionery goodness in this episode. Find out what Brad mixes with his Red Bull and what Christina threatens to put in his mouth while he’s sleeping.

Brad starts Geek And Tell with Transformers…surprise! He’s got Transformers Animated figures and a Decepticon jacket from Hot Topic

Glenn turns up the heat on Guilty Pleasures with Mercury Man (and yes, it’s available on NetFlix!).

We come back for seconds of Geek Cuisine this week, as we share Nestle Crunch Dark miniatures.

Final thoughts include readying ourselves for the holidays, getting Wall-E on Blu-ray, the necessity of wearing a coat, the loveliness of Canada, and Stargate Universe.

We give thanks for our promos, including Future Traditions, The Weird Show and Mark Gunn’s Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. Our gratitude to the Great Luke Ski for his song, Black Friday! Minor language for the very wee members of the PodCulture audience as we’ve included the “Bull$hit” song.

PodCulture 128: The GeekShow Show – Part D

Posted on Monday, November 24th, 2008

One more time, we warmly welcome the crew from Geekshow.us, Scott, Lindsey and Ben!

Ben and Scott talk about the newest flash of brilliance from Geekshow.us, Geek By Night. What does it have in common with PodCulture, Lost, and J.M. Straczynski?

We finish out our stash of gourmet candy corn with Strawberry Cotton Candy, Orange Mango and Toasted S’Mores.

Jay Emmitt from The Obscure 80’s Podcast calls into the voicmail line with his thoughts about Heroes.

Christina begins the book section of Geek and Tell with her newest obsession, The Twilight Series. Ben and Scott proceed to flame it so greatly, our eyebrows are singed.  What do you think? Is the series anti-feminist? Is Bella a good role model? (Christina wished she would have finished the books before the debate, because there are all kinds of points she would have made) Brad’s got Star Trek Destiny:Gods of Night, Expert Podcasting Practices for Dummies.

Final thoughts include having a happy Halloween, finally seeing the end to the candy corn, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, and the new Star Trek movie.

Thanks to Steampunk Spectacular and Morevi Remastered by Tee Morris for their promos!

PodCulture 127: The GeekShow Show – Part C

Posted on Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Our friends Lindsey, Scott and Ben (of the fantastic Geekshow.us) are back in the studio!

Glenn’s got a full house to Guiltify this week, as he brings Russ Meyer’s “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” (And it’s NOT on Netflix! Boo!)

Bronze Thumb from Australia calls in with feedback on our Heroes rant from last week.

Christina entreats out listeners to come up with a P.O. Box jingle, as we profusely thank Jayhawk for his prezzies!! He’s sent us “The IT Crowd”, and Doctor Who Series 4 on dvd with scads of extras!

Geek And Tell begins with video games, because Brad’s got Bioshock for the PS3 and a funny story picking up Fable 2. Glenn’s picked up Far Cry 2, and recreated the Lost island. Everyone’s still jamming with Rock Band 2, and Adam’s got the new drums. We move into movies, as the PodCulture couple has the special edition of Iron Man on blu-ray, spawning a discussion about casting, speculaion about story, and news about future Iron Man films. They’ve also got the second (short) season of Heroes on blu-ray.  Christina has scored tickets for the tour of the Broadway production of Wicked. Speaking of things green, Glenn talks about The Hulk on dvd. He’s also got Journey To The Center of the Earth in 3D, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, the Nightmare on Elm Street movie set, Freddie vs. Jason, Feast 2, Hannibal, The Happening, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

In music, Glenn’s got the new Pink album. Brad’s got the Stargate DHD application, and Christina’s got the School of Rock application from the iTunes store.

Thank you very much to Brian Richardson from What The Cast!

PodCulture 126: The GeekShow Show – Part B

Posted on Sunday, November 9th, 2008

We’re grateful to our friends, Scott, Lindsey, and Ben from Geekshow.us!

The gang geeks deeply about Doctor Who, and the bombshell about David Tennant. Do we think it’s time for change? Are we going to be clinging to his red Chuck Taylors? We talk numbers with regard to regenerations, Steven Moffat at the helm, and prospective Doctor Eleven actors. Brad brings up a controversial interview with Russell T. Davies, and the group discusses fan input in show creation. Are we tired of the Daleks and Cybermen? Companion wars ensue, and we all seem to love a different actress. Who loves Martha, Donna, Sarah Jane and Rose? What will David do next?

We discuss another spark of Steven Moffat genius: Coupling! Where does it cross over with Doctor Who?

Geek Cuisine comes courtesy of Christina’s Secret Pal at work, Crazy Bones Lollipops.

Matthew from Michigan calls in a voicemail about Transformers Titanium “War Within” figure.

Christina opens this Halloween Geek and Tell with her My Little Pony witch. Quantum Mechanix created the “Little Damn Hero” Kaylee figure that Brad brings to the table tonight. He’s also got a plethora of new Green Lantern figures, including the Crisis Black Hand and Sinestro. Glenn and Ben are exercising restraint, and Scott makes a great find on a First Appearance Blue Beetle figure. The group talks about Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and foreign languages in comic books.

Love and thanks to The Obscure 80’s Podcast and Geek Cred for their promos!

PodCulture 125: The GeekShow Show – Part A

Posted on Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

The PodCulture crew welcomes Scott, Lindsey, and Ben from Geekshow.us into the studio!

Glenn’s back on the WoW wagon, Adam’s playing the drumsticks off Rock Band2, Christina’s reading at watching tv on Hulu.com, Brad’s fixing the PodCulture Cruisier.

Geek Cuisine is spooky sugar this week, as we enjoy Hot Fangs Cinnamon candy corn

Get ready to save the cheerleader AND the world, as the entire room (except for Adam) talks about Heroes in depth. (If you’re wanting to be unspoiled about season 3, skip from 12 minutes to minute 47)  Which of us loves it? Which of us wishes Nathan had nuked the city? What do we think about the writing? Who thinks that the show was the biggest casualty of the writers’ strike? Which characters have to go, and who do we still love?

Promos come lovingly from The 9th: A Heroes Podcast and The Obscure 80’s Podcast.
