PodCulture 117: Epic Blue Marks – Part C

Posted on Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Welcome back my Geeklings!

Geek And Tell finds Brad and Christina with the shiniest tech gear Brad’s gotten thus far (and gear Christina has not seen the likes of), in their new iPhones. Brad’s now ticking the “Mac Curious” demographic box, and Christina got to be Donna Noble for a bit, while he bought an old iMac 3G pc on eBay. Glenn’s gotten some new phone swag himself, and tells us about Magic Jack.

We indulge our sweet teeth with Hershey Kisses Cookies & Cream. Should white chocolate be considered “real” chocolate? What do you think?

In closing, Glenn says find Hell Ride trailers, Christina asks for cool music suggestions, Adam says play Soul Calibur 4, and Brad is irked with Yahoo.

Thanks so very much to The Mean Mommies Club, Astral Audio and Seth Harwood’s podio novel “Young Junius”.

And hey! If you’re going to be in Atlanta for Dragon Con, look us up! You’ll probably find Brad in the Podcasting rooms (or following Jewel Staite), and Christina will be zipping around near the British TV track (or following Gareth David-Lloyd). Or join us both for the Parsec Awards and wish us luck on Saturday night!

PodCulture 116: Epic Blue Marks – Part B

Posted on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

The guilt comes first this week as one of Glenn’s Guilty Pleasures welcomes us all back into the studio!

This one finds us at “Doomsday”, to which even the salesman at Best Buy suggested, “Rent it.” The boys talk about Rhona Mitra, the original Con Model for Laura Croft. We muse about the future of Blu-ray content, and cross our fingers and click our heels that the likes of Wizard of Oz and other classic Hollywood musicals make it to the new medium.

Geek And Tell finds Glenn saddened at the prospect of now owning the last issue of Warren Ellis’ “Black Summer”, but finds solace in his new copy of “The Art of Witchblade”, and some of the great art by the late Michael Turner. Christina plans to pick up the dvd set of the Witchblade series, the gang talks about the anime, and Brad is surprised to find out that Yancy Butler is supposed to be a guest at Dragon Con. Brad has also added two new Green Lantern figures to the emerald fortress, with DC Direct’s Batman as a Green Lantern figure and an Infinite Heroes Guy Gardner Green Lantern figure. He’s also added Artoo Potatoo and a Spud Trooper to his shelf of plastic starch.

We wrap up this episode geeking about what the boys call one of the most beautiful games to come to a console in years, Soul Calibur 4. They’ve got it for the X Box 360, but do you have it for the PS3? Tell us what you think? We continue about the beauty of Bioshock and the beast of Thrill Kill. What’s your favorite, most visually stunning game?

Thank you so much to our fellow Louisvillian for the voicemail about the girly geekness of Colin Firth. Christina will have to watch Bridget Jones, Importance of Being Earnest, Pride and Prejudice, Fever Pitch and Love Actually, and get back to you. Oh, the things she puts herself through for her listeners!

Our promos come graciously from Mur Lafferty, asking her readers to pick up her upcoming printed novel “Playing for Keeps”, and from Jack Jaffee for his podio novel “Down The Road”.

PodCulture 114: The Horrible Doctor Babylon – Part C

Posted on Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Brad and Christina welcome Adam back into the studio for another round of torture…I mean fun!

Christina takes the first roll of the dice talking about her games Puzzle Quest and Puzzle Hero, entreating listeners to think outside the box. On the suggestion of Orange Lounge Radio, Brad’s picked up Blast Works for the Wii. The three muse on the superiority of the Wii and the X Box over the PS3 when it comes to their online sharing. Adam’s having LAN parties with a mod of Half Life 2 called Zombie Master. Christina talks about the preview of Flight of the Living Dead on their BBC dvd, and are you as weirded out as she is that Brad now owns punchyouinthejunk.com? Brad gleams about his new iPod Touch and the many awesome apps.

Geek Cuisine recants the childhoods of lore with Candy Sticks (aka cigarettes) from Marvel.

Matthew Blackheart: Monster Smasher brings Glenn back into the studio for Guilty Pleasures! We talk about how both Matthew Blackheart and Robo Vampire are on Netflix.

In closing, the three talk about the connections between Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the rest of the Whedonverse.

Thank you to The Zombie Channel for their promo, and to Kurt in St. George for his voicemail about JMS and Babylon 5. Mur Lafferty asks us to head to Amazon on August 25th to pick up “Playing For Keeps” in print. Thanks and love to The Babylon Podcast for their promo.
