Rest in peace, General Hammond

Posted on Monday, June 30th, 2008
Don S. Davis, our beloved General Hammond from SG1, has passed away due to a heart attack on June 29, 2008. God speed, Don, and rest in peace.

As long-time listeners to the show may know Christina and I used to host a short-lived podcast called Stargate Louisville. I want to open the iris on that show one more time and would like to do a tribute show for Don. To make this even more of a tribute I would like YOUR help. If you have a special memory of meeting him at a convention, or a favorite moment from the show, please let us know in your own words. You can record something and email it to me: Brad (at) PodCulture.net or call the voicemail line at 206-338-3763, and leave it there.

I’d like to get this out and on the feed as soon as possible. Prob not the next episode of PodCulture (show 111) due out Wed 7/2) but the following one (due out 7/9).

Peace,
Brad

PodCulture 110: Will Podcast for Food – Part C

Posted on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Thanks so much to Adam for enduring yet another episode with us!

We bring on the bad as Glenn gives us “Machine Girl” as his next Guilty Pleasure!

Geek Cuisine takes a trip back to the 80s with Pop Rocks candy bars!

Geek and Tell has Brad laid out on the tiles with Mahjong Quest Expeditions for the DS while Christina’s getting her brain back together with Brain Challenge. The four give their best guess as to how long Joss Whedon’s new “Dollhouse” will air. Battlefield: Bad Company is keeping Glenn busy in the demo on XBox 360, and he’s waiting for his PS3. Brad goes against his own grain with Grand Theft Auto 4, and the guys geek on Flatout. Christina’s leader of the tribe with Virtual Villagers 3, and loves her hidden object games. The pair talk about Lego Indiana Jones.

For spinning stories (and promos) with the best of them, we thank Tee Morris for “The Case of the Pitcher’s Pendant: A Billibub Baddings Mystery”, and Philippa Ballantine for “Chasing The Bard”. We dare you not to be humming Beatnik Turtle’s “Johnny Jump Up” an hour (or a day, or a week) from now!

PodCulture 109: Will Podcast for Food – Part B

Posted on Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

We are happy to have Adam still in the studio!

Sit right back and you’ll hear a tale… a spoilerific tale… of Lost, now that Glenn is all caught up. (If you wish to stuff sand in your ears to keep from hearing anything that might electro-magnetize your brain, skip from the five minute mark to the 20 minute mark. Do you like Kate? How would you kill her off? What are your theories and hypotheses about the Island?

The Culture Quartet taste the Mountain Dew trio of new flavors. Do you like Voltage, Supernova or Revolution? Find out why Christina has kicked the energy drink habit. What on earth do water buffalo have to do with Geek Cuisine?

See who Geeked and who Told this week. Brad and Christina have adopted Benry Linus from Build A Bear. He’s got Green Lantern and Hawk Man figures from The Batman line, and new Transformers toys. We ruminate on the multiplication of koalas, and Glenn tells us why he’ll be doing a lot less Geek and Tell shopping in the future.

Thank you for the gorgeous promo for Philippa Ballantine’s podio novel, Chasing the Bard. Thanks again to Beatnik Turtle for keeping our Irish eyes smiling with “Beer, Beer, Beer” from their album “Sham Rock”. Brad gets his geek on with promo from The GeekSpin.

PodCulture 108: Will Podcast for Food – Part A

Posted on Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

We happily welcome Adam back into the studio!

Beware the Pod casters, Glenn hasn’t played WoW in months. He has finally caught up with some tv and movies. He’s seen Iron Man, and the boys talk about Speed Racer. Adam talks about putting together his sports car of a computer, and Brad commiserates with tales of what happens when new case meets old memory. Brad and Christina have seen Indiana Jones, and Christina’s taking care of her Virtual Villagers tribe.

The quartet breaks out the whip with their reviews of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls. (Those who wish to remain spoiler free, skip from about the 18 minute to about the 37 minute mark.)

Holy Geek Cuisine, Batman!! We have Batman Candy bats.

Where Geek meets Tell, you’ll find us! Brad finds a ZipZap Micro RC car of Bumblebee, and a die cast Mach 5. Glenn’s got the Hot Wheels Speed Racer set. Brad found a set of Mighty Mugg figures, including Yoda, Iron Man, Spider Man, Captain America, The Thing, and Doctor Doom. Who would win between Puppet Spike and Mighty Muggs Yoda? Listen!

Thanks muchly for the promos from The Adventures of Indiana Jim and the podcast for the novel, Chasing the Bard! (Where you just might hear a familiar voice in the cast)

What happens when theme tune gurus Beatnik Turtle take on classic Irish pub tunes? Enjoy the song “Mary Mac” from their new CD “Sham Rock” (also available on iTunes) and find out.

PodCulture 107: Frack You Benry Linus – Part D

Posted on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Crank up the air conditioning, as we open this week with the hotness that is summer movies!

Glenn talks about Iron Man, and anticipates Speed Racer and The Incredible Hulk. He talks about Get Smart, and Steve Carell which leads to a discussion about Land of The Lost with Will Farrell. We’re all curious about the upcoming movies, including G.I. Joe, Star Trek, Quantum of Solace, X-Men: Wolverine, Star Wars:Clone Wars, Dark Knight, Hellboy, Watchmen, Indiana Jones and Bioshock. Christina doesn’t let them forget about her Christmas in July, when she goes to see X-Files: I Want To Believe, and gives the boys the heads up about Mama Mia. It may not be a proper movie sequel, but Brad looks forward to the Ghostbusters video game. What movies are you most looking forward to? See one that impressed you? See one that’s disappointing? Let us know!

Get a glass of milk! This week’s Geek Cuisine is Strawberry Milkshake Oreos.

Christina’s still loving her birthday presents, including a Gir shirt from Brad to match her Gir cell phone fob and earrings. Elizabeth gave her “True Meaning of Friendship”, but Brad comes in first with….get ready… an autographed David Tennant and Catherine Tate photograph. Brad’s not to be outdone with his Idaho Jones Mr. Potato Head and Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan Enterprise model. What would a Geek and Tell be without a koala? We’ve given another poor little thing a home. Not nearly as cuddly, the pair also picked up three memory cards, and Brad’s amped up the PodCulture PC.

In closing, Christina regales another horrifying chapter in “Riding on the Shortbus”, and the boys talk about RoboVampire and Snakes on a Plane. Which is scarier? You tell us!

Thanks so much to Hypersensitive and Talechaser for their promos!

Uber-thanks to Barenaked Hurley for his song, “Under Water Station”.
