PodCulture 98: Raiders of the Lost Geek – Part B

Posted on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

We’d like to thank the Academy…oh, wait…wrong award…

We’d love to thank our fellow podcasters for voting for us, and helping us win the Podcast Peer Award for “eclectic podcast”! Thank you so very much for voting!

Glenn gets one last guilt in for Easter with Lupin the Third: Strange Psychokinetic Strategy.

The movie shelves are busting this week as Brad and Christina add White Noise 2, Rush Hour 3, Ringers: Lord of the Fans, and Sands of Oblivion. They’ve given their ill-fated HD dvd shelf company with the uber-geek five disc Blade Runner set, TMNT, and The Last Starfighter (which spawns a discussion about classic sci-fi movies). Glenn pre-ordered the pair of National Treasure movies on Blu-ray. Take the poll with us about how long it will take Glenn to buy a PS3, just so he can play his movies!

Geek Cuisine is Chocolate Malt Crunch Hershey Kisses! We talk about the blasphemy of caffeine free Mountain Dew.

We close the show with game-related carpal tunnel, and the impossibility of the Rock Band drums, and the new Incredible Hulk movie.

Thanks muchly to the podcast audio drama Geek By Night for the hilarious promos, and to the band Nuclear Bubble Wrap for their great parody of “Still Alive”.

PodCulture 97: Raiders of the Lost Geek – Part A

Posted on Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

We welcome Ashlee back in to our studios one more time before she goes north to college in Vancouver!

Glenn reminds us to look forward to the X-Files movie, Christina is hoping to have her faulty parts abducted, and the truth is found on the Ghost Recon 2 downloadable maps.

Brad and Christina have watched Omega Man, and Glenn is finally nearly caught up with Lost! Brad and Glenn work out a deal with Battlestar Galactica DVDs. Christina talks about plot she and Elizabeth have for “The Other” side of the island. Brad and Christina watched Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. They had to hunt down their copy of Stargate: the Ark of Truth. They are watching Torchwood, Smallville (we may never chew gum again), and New Amsterdam. We weep because of Knight Rider, How I Met Your Mother, and Paula Abdul. Glenn is happily surprised by No Country For Old Men and Bridge to Terabithia.

Pucker up and enjoy the latest version of Hershey Kisses….Lemon Creme!

Take a moment to stand in awe of our spenditude…or a moment to cry about it. This week Glenn is the first Culture Crew member to break out the Blu-Ray with I Am Legend. Ashlee and Brad both show of their shiny (literally!) Cortana figures. Brad picked up Master Chief, and she got a Brute Chieftain. Christina is enabling all over the place as Brad has added a few new furry faces to the family. Brad has also picked up the motorcycle chase Lego set from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Wii. Both boys have picked up Flatout: Ultimate Carnage in a surprise XBox 360 find, and Brad adds V: the Second Generation to the book shelf.

Promos from Beatnik Turtle (check out their new cd Sham Rock!) and Gig Cast, Geek By Night, and Scott Sigler’s novel “Infected”.

PodCulture 96: High Def Geekery – Part B

Posted on Monday, March 10th, 2008

Stand back! It’s time for the 96th episode of PodCulture!

Before we begin, if you’re a podcaster, we’d love it if you’d head over to the Podcast Peer Awards and register to vote for PodCulture in the “Eclectic” category.

There can be only one guilty pleasure this week as Glenn brings us Highlander: The Source. Not only is Christina happy to see Adrian Paul, but to hear the Queen songs again.

Got candy? This week’s geek cuisine is Raspberry Three Musketeers.

Gamer geeks at heart, we’re playing and clicking and strumming this week. Glenn’s excited about the new WoW patch, playing Rainbow Six Vegas,Call of Duty 4, Ghost Recon 2, and has pre-ordered Rainbow Six 2. Brad bought Rock Band, Christina’s an addict, and now they’ve got Guitar Hero 2 and 3. Brad’s picked up Bullet Witch and Bomberman:Act Zero. Brad’s got his newest holy grail, his Nintendo DS. He’s got his DS Browser, Retro Atari, Transformers Autobots, Metroid Prime Pinball, Star Trek:Tactical Assault, Meteos, and Mario Kart DS. The two are jealous of Glenn, now that he’s got Lost: Via Domus. Brad defends the Yaris game on XBox 360.

“They have chosen….poorly”. Brad and Christina backed the HD camp, so with their HD dvd drive for the XBox 360, they’re collecting the remains of the Blu-Ray massacre. They had an interesting experience picking up some titles, but have come back with Constantine, Face-Off, V for Vendetta, Apollo 13 and Beowulf. Brad’s picked up Breakfast Club and Smallville season 6 on dvd. Titles that came with his players include King Kong, Bourne Identity and 300. His favorite HD prize is Star Trek: Season 1. The boys talk about backwards compatibility on the PS 3, and HD versus Blu-Ray.

Promos come cordially from the Strangely Literal Podcast, and The Zombie Channel. A plane-full of thanks to Barenaked Hurley for his song “Don’t Have Island Love”.

Glenn’s playing WoW, and went to see Spiderwick Chronicles. Christina’s a Rock Band junkie. All three are looking forward to the next Indy movie!

Make room on the couch! Glenn’s watching Chaos, and Brad and Christina are watching the usual geek fodder. They’re keeping up with Sarah Connor Chronicles, and plan “Terminator:The Musical”. Christina’s loving Stargate Atlantis, and Torchwood, but dreads watching the MacGyver episode of Mythbusters. The trio talks about the new Knight Rider series. Glenn’s finally getting caught up on Lost! The boys have both picked up 30 Days of Night and Justice League:New Frontier. Glenn’s got Matthew Blackheart: Monster Smasher, Voogie’s Angel, and Crossworlds. Brad’s picked up Fido, The Wild, White Noise, Transmorphers, Flight of the Living Dead and Velveteen Rabbit.
