PodCulture 75: Black Friday – Blue Thursday

Posted on Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

With Christina recovering from going under the knife and Glenn off killing monsters in WoW, the shownote duty for this extra-length extra geeky episode falls to Brad. Do you know what that means? Yep…you guessed it; it is CHEESY-LAZY shownotes time!

The show kicks off with an intro from the folks at Buffy: Between the Lines that will just slay you.

There is the usual geek filled intro babble by the crew, swiftly followed by some TV and DVD chatter…and you’ll never guess what Glenn has FINALLY finished watching! (sheesh…took the guy long enough didn’t it?)

Thank you to the folks at Wander Radio for the spiffy rejoiner.

The TEN winners of the KARAS: The Revelation DVD contest are finally announced. Thank you to all who entered and stay tuned…we’ll have more contests soon!

The sugar rush hits once again in Geek Cuisine. This time around the crew test out the yummy, yet somehow temperature-challanged Hot Cocoa Hershey Kisses.

A “Gadgets and Games” themed version of Geek and Tell cuts loose with discussion on some of Brad and Christina’s recent high tech toy purchases, and some recent videogame purchases by both Brad and Glenn.

The show winds up with some chatter about the holidays, family drama, and a request that good vibes be sent Christina’s way during her surgery and recovery.

Promos for this episode are from: The Dragon Page: Cover to Cover and Things are Looking Up.

Christina's Surgery Update

Posted on Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Hey gang….just wanted to let everyone know that Christina came thru her surgery just fine.  She’s having a fair bit of pain, but that’s to be expected.  She should be in her hospital room and resting soon.

On a brighter note….she got a package via FedEx yesterday from her dad.  He had apparently gone thru some of the things she had left up at her parents’ house and he found her bunny. Now this isn’t just ANY bunny … this bunny is extra special!  She has had this thing since she was six years old, and he’s taken care of her thru all of the other surgeries she’s had.

**UPDATE**  Christina is now in her room and is resting somewhat comfortably, and says thank you to everyone for sending her the continued good vibes.

PodCulture 74: Happy Happy Death Death – Part B

Posted on Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

We open this week with our request for our listeners to Program PodCulture! What should Brad and Christina watch while she recovers? You tell us!

In Geek ‘n’ Tell this week, we cover all the bases. Brad and Christina have added two new members to their koala family with a Ty koala named Brisbane, and a Coca Cola koala named Quala. Brad finds a Captain Archer action figure, and we’re all enjoying the new mic stands in the office. They’ve picked up the first season of Six Feet Under, and Christina relives happy childhood memories with her Strawberry Shortcake mug. Brad’s picked up the anthology of Heroes comics, and the new Garth Brooks cd. They fill their tardis even further with Genesis of the Daleks on dvd, and find Judge Dredd for the Gamecube on clearance. The pair have Invasion on dvd, and round out their massive Geek ‘n’ Tell this week with a repaint of Starscream, and the Walking Dead comics.

Glenn’s gaming up a storm this week (as usual) with the new WoW patch, Tabula Rasa, and Crysis on order. The boys discuss how the Phantasy Star franchise was their gateway drug to the online gaming gene. Taking a page from Brad and Christina’s book, Glenn picks up the insanely cute “Underdog” dog costume…even though he doesn’t have one.

Just a reminder that we’ll be announcing the winners of our Karas:The Revelation contest soon, so if you haven’t entered, get on it, people!

Glenn gets guilty this week with The Doll Squad!

In closing, the trio talk about everything from Horror Hound Weekend, to politics, to super chicks, to the super weird Pee Wee Herman. Just goes to show, nothing is sacred, and nothing’s off limits.

Thanks to Mur Lafferty and J.C. Hutchins for their Podiobooks promo, and to The Geologic Podcast, The Sciphi Show, and Upside Down and Halfway to Happyland.

PodCulture 73: Happy Happy Death Death – Part A

Posted on Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

After an introduction by everyones favorite Shepherd/Spy Ron Glass PodCulture gets back into it’s spazzy swing.

Glenn’s back in the co-captain chair, and he’s talking about two new games that he’s procured, as Timeshift and Call of Duty 4 threaten his World of Warcraft time.

Our dvd players spin this week while Glenn watches The Reaping, to pleasant surprise, and Christina and Brad are watching the cast of regulars in Heroes, Babylon 5, Supernatural, Stargate:Atlantis, and Sarah Jane Adventures. The trio talk about the writers’ strike, and how it impacts their favorite shows. Glenn’s picked up the HD DVD drive for his 360, and has added Heroes, Transformers, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, the Bladerunner ultimate edition, and The Last Samauri to his new HD collection (as well as eyeing the Kubrick collection).

We enable our sweet teeth this week as Reese Whipps add themselves to the Geek Cuisine history book.

The Karas:The Revelation contest is winding down, so keep a look out for winners!

Brad and Christina begin Program PodCulture! During Christina’s recovery, the listeners are asked to post to the forum, with their suggestions for what they should be watching. Then, they’ll post their reviews. We only ask that it be about the length of a movie or a couple of episodes of a show. We’ll definitely keep you posted if she can keep up with more!

Many many thanks to Jill and The Signal crewfor the Sci-Fi review of Blakes 7.

Thanks to Buffy:Between The Lines, and folks at The Big Damn Sequel.com for their promos.

PodCulture 72: Brad and Christina's Bogus Podcast

Posted on Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

After a most righteous introduction by Bill and Ted, Brad and Christina are flying solo this week without Glenn.

Halloween sucked worse than Angelus this year, having only one trick-or-treater despite all the candy (and that was Brad’s sister, Emalee, who is awesome).

The pair have been watching the usual suspects of shows this week. Supernatural, Smallville, Sarah Jane Adventures, Stargate Atlantis, and the growingly addictive Flash Gordon. In older shows, we’re finally into season 3 of Babylon 5, and most currently, Heroes and the Battlestar Galactica movie, Razor. They tell the saga of the harbingers of a full dvd shelf and an empty pocket: the closing Hollywood video stores! Brad’s gem was the guiltily pleasurable Spider Babe, and Christina picks up Harvest Moon for the PS2. Gamestop was not unrepresented, however, as on the recommendation by a dear listener, we’ve picked up Viva Pinata.

In the first part of the hopefully recurring segment, “The Geek Spin”, Brad and Christina rock on, dudes, to some of their favorite tunes. Christina heads up the choices with Tom Smith’s, “I’m on Firefly”. Brad’s first pick is “Nursery Rhyme Lawyer”, by Throwing Toasters. Since Glenn decided being abducted by aliens of more fun than hanging out with us, we’ve chosen “Americans By Our Guns”, by A Cast of Thousands.

Don’t forget to enter our “Karas: The Revelation” dvd contest!

Our Geek Cuisine this week may not be weird, but it’s easy and quick for our beloved geeks who want to spend as little time away from the computer/console/tv as possible. Brad’s Bean Soup!

Keep listening, and you’ll hear Christina’s second “Geek Spin” choice, “It Takes Who” by Luke Ski. Brad spins Robert Lund singing “You’ve Got Hogwarts”. As our last choice for Glenn, we’ve got Sudden Death sings “Blood, Guts, and Boobs”.

Christina announces her upcoming surgery, and asks for kind thoughts and prayers. She may sound way too excited about her hysterectomy, but that’s from being tired of parts that don’t work and not because she’s belittling the operation. It’s a serious thing, and trust me, she has her moments of absolute freak-out. She’d like to take the time to mention HysterSisters.com for the most extensive, comprehensive, compassionate community on the net for women of every age, illness, and opinion – both pre and post-op. (Since posting the episode, Christina has started a blog here.)

Thanks muchly to Cup Car Update for their contest promo, and Mur Lafferty and J. C. Hutchins for the hilarious cross over promo for “Heaven” and “7th Son”.
