PodCulture 71: Tricks and Treats – Part B

Posted on Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

After an introduction by Fright Fest headliner, Michael Berryman, we jump into the next creepy episode of PodCulture!

Ashleigh is still with us, so we begin our Great Geeking with games. Halo 3, Orange Box and Half Life 2, and Lost Planet.

Ashleigh talks about Halo 3, and Glenn goes into intense hyper-hypo geekmode with the holidays, WoW style. From Brewfest to Hallowsend, he shares some of the quirks and hidden gems of World of Warcraft.

Let the holiday season begin with the first Jones Soda special of 2007! We test Spider Cider, Lemon Drop Dead, Strawberry Slime, Gruesome Grape, Black Cat Licorice, Moster Mojito, and Dread Licorice! Which flavor nearly comes out of Ashleigh’s nose? Which flavor makes Brad pucker himself inside-out? Listen and find out!

The ghastly Guilty Pleasure this week is (The) War in Space!

Our spooky tunes this week come from Jonathan Coulton with “Creepy Doll”, and from Tom Smith with “Neckbolt Love”

In a world…filled with promos…ours include The Scapecast and The Babylon Podcast.

Don’t forget to enter our Karas: Revelation contest!

Have a very Merry Hallow, and a Happy New Ween!

PodCulture 70: Tricks and Treats – Part A

Posted on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Trust no one except Tom Braidwood to introduce PodCulture this week!

Jones Soda Maven Ashleigh returns to the PodCulture studio, as Optimus Prime himself warns us of Glenn’s Decepticon presence!

Glenn’s finally finished Dangerman (Everyone say, “YAY!”), and is now watching Heroes (Everyone say, “FINALLY!”). Brad and Christina have been missing out on How I Met Your Mother, and still bemoan the loss of The Class. Ashleigh has returned from a Film Festival in NYC to honor the creator of “Drawn By Pain“, and talks about the Nintendo Store.

Aside from Dangerman, Glenn’s picked up The Reaping, Wrong Turn 2, 28 Weeks Later, and looks forward to Resident Evil 3. Brad and Christina have been watching Veggie Tales “Wizard of Ha’s”, Sarah Jane Adventures, Bionic Woman, Flash Gordon, Smallville, and Supernatural. Ashleigh, not a fan of a lot of tv, loves Ghosthunters.

Glenn gives an overview of Karas: The Prophecy just to remind you to enter the contest for Karas: The Revelation!

Thanks to our voicemail ladies this week! Debbie from Wingin’ It says “White and Nerdy” is her favorite geek song, and Traci from Sqeecast: Fangirls Unite tells us about Dies The Fire, by S.M. Sterling.

Geek ‘n Tell this week finds us, once again, knee deep in Transformers. Brad brings home several toys, and a 3D transformable gift card from Target. We’ve also got a Spi-Dog guarding the office, and Brad brings Christina a bucketful of Haloweenie goodness!

Ashleigh talks about the differences between the Legendary and Limited Editions of Halo 3, and can kick Brad’s butt in any of them.

Brad alerts Glenn to the HD sale at Best Buy, and Glenn dislikes that the only way to get Spiderman 1 & 2 on Blu-Ray was to buy the trilogy.

Thanks so much to The Obscure 80’s Podcast for their promotion!

PodCulture 69: Brad and Christina's Excellent Adventure

Posted on Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Put on your Wyld Stallions t-shirts, and hop in the nearest phone booth, because Brad and Christina are having a most excellent adventure.

Glenn’s been abducted by Duane Barry this week, so Brad and Christina are singing a duet. Christina talks about her less-than-fun appointment, and Brad’s the lone cheese on his team at work.

They take a moment to pick two of their favorite geek tunes. In honor of Christina’s little sister, Miranda (no, she’s not a Reaver), she picks the amazingly addictive “Hamster Brain” by Tom Smith. Brad’s first pick is a remix of Jonathan Coulton’s “Code Monkey”. Christina’s next choice is “Talk Nerdy To Me” by Possible Oscar. Come on, a song that mentions Aeryn Sun can’t be wrong! Brad’s last pick reminds us of a reason we do this, in the tribute song for Joe Murphy, “Mason Rocket” by Beatnik Turtle. Did you enjoy our new segment? Let us know! Do you have a favorite geek song? Tell us!

Jay, from The Obscure 80’s Podcast, calls in a voicemail while driving through lovely Cincinnati, OH, letting us know he’s fallen in love with Doctor Who. Thanks, Jay!

The Dorky Duo returns with their TV talk for the week. They’ve watched more Flash Gordon, Sarah Jane Adventures, and Bionic Woman. The biggest explosion this week, however, has been Jericho. Watched in under a week (not since Stargate have the two plowed through a season so fast), they talk about their favorite characters, and the many themes of the show. And what is it with Kansas? There’s Wizards, and Winchesters, weird meteor freaks and weapons of mass destruction! (Wait…we still love you, Jayhawk!)

New on the growingly overburdened dvd shelf this week is the first season of Roswell, and the second season of Robot Chicken.

Glenn returns from the mother ship in time to join us for geek cuisine fit for E.T . himself: Reese Pieces with chocolate candies.

Enter PodCulture’s newest contest for the dvd of the anime hit, Karas the Revelation!

Promos this week graciously provided by Scott Sigler’s “Nocturnal”, and Buffy: Between The Lines.

Party on dudes. Be excellent to each other.

PodCulture 68: And The Winners Are…..

Posted on Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

After an introduction by Clayton Hill of Dawn of the Dead, we’re once again lost in the seven seas of geek!

Brad’s still playing Halo 3, and Glenn’s trying to divide his time between it and WoW. Christina’s both hating the ridiculously warm weather (and yes, the first weekend in October DID see 90 degrees), and adoring the fact that she got her Phantom of The Opera tickets.

In the PodCulture tv/dvd world this week, Glenn is finally on the last disc of Dangerman (FINALLY!), and will soon be catching up with Heroes and Smallville. He’s gotten to see Bionic Woman, and is content, thus far, with the remake. Brad and Christina are caught up with Flash Gordon, and it’s definitely growing on them. They’re still in love with Sarah Jane Adventures, and enjoyed the season premiere of Smallville. Brad and Christina completely disagree on the pilot of Moonlight and Jason Dohring. The pair have plodded through more of Babylon 5, and give a glowing review to the
season premiere of Heroes.

PodCulture 67: The Halo 3 Special

Posted on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Alert Master Chief! Halo 3 hits PodCulture!

With Christina along for the ride, Brad and Glenn do some seriously hard core geeking on what Microsoft calls “the biggest entertainment launch in history”! The boys squee about everything from weapons and one-liners, to game saves and grunts. How does it compare to Halos past? What are the coolest new features? Was it worth trekking across town at midnight to catch the launch? Glenn sings the praises of Bungie.net, and talks about Marvel’s comic book mini-series, Uprising. Brad considers adding the Heroclix Halo figures to his collection. Christina, the remaining member of the trio, who has yet to play the game herself, enjoys the gorgeous graphics and hauntingly beautiful score.

All three agree that “Halo Nights” by Team Tiger Awesome is ridiculously addictive.

Promo for this episode is for Thesis A Fantasy from Indiana Jim.

Episode 67 delay.

Posted on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Hey gang,

Sorry to tell y’all this, but due some circumstances beyond my control episode 67  of PodCulture will be delayed a bit.  It seems that the new system we are using to publish and host the files is having some minor glitches.  Hopefully this will be at most a single day delay, and you’ll have another dose of geeky goodness ASAP.

Peace,

Brad
