PodCulture 61: Wolfman's Got Nards!

Posted on Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Batten down the hatches, geeks! After an introduction from Andre Gower, the Culture Crew returns! Fresh from the Fright Night Film Festival, Brad and Glenn are worn down to
fanboy nubs. Glenn is still lost in WoW and has found Supernatural on dvd. Christina had a visit from her family, and all are getting ready for Dragon Con.

In Geek ‘N’ Tell, thanks so much to Mark aka Jayhawk, for the final installment of Doctor Who, series three. Christina reaps belated birthday booty from her family, including her long-awaited Spike Puppet plush, a beautiful (and sadly unmentioned) pewter sword letter opener from Medieval Times, and the Wii Sports Pack. They’ve also brought her Nightcrawler figure, and her Angel trading cards. Glenn’s picked up the Farscape Peacekeeper Wars, and the conversation turns to Dragon Con guests Claudia Black, Lani Tupu, David Franklin, and Gigi Edgely. Brad bought “Batman: Dead End”, which includes the amazing short film, “Grayson”. Brad and Christina finally complete their Babylon 5 collection.

PodCulture 60: We Three Geeks – Part B

Posted on Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

The Culture Crew starts off their 60th episode with an apology for omitting information from the previous show. The song “You’ve Got Hogwarts” was by Robert Lund and was from The Funny Music Project website. Then the geeks have their worlds rocked with the news that PodCulture is a finalist for a 2007 Parsec Award in the “Best Reality Podcast” category!

Christina, Glenn and Brad again welcome Ashlee into the studio, and we start with Glenn’s Guilty Pleasures. A Cult Classic, Dekker Double Feature. Fred Dekker having directed both Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps (as well as Robocop 3!)

Brad tells the tale of tainting the guys of Far Point Media with the mind-numbing Robovampire.

Don’t be cruel to this week’s geek cuisine, as we enjoy Elvis inspired peanut butter and banana Reese Cups, and Brad is disappointingly surprised by banana Twinkies.

Thanks to The Signal for their Sci-Fi Review featuring Battlestar Galactica.

Geek ‘N Tell was so epic last week, we’ve split it into two segments. This week, we wield our Harry Potter tome, collected comics Green Lantern/Green Arrow vol. 2, Spiderman: Kraven’s Last Hunt, Identity Crisis, and Star Trek Year Four. Christina’s picked up volumes 2 and 3 of Y: The Last Man, and they both hugely enjoy Babylon 5:The Lost Tales. Christina is gobsmacked that Bill Mumy was once part of the “Fish Heads” eating Barnes and Barnes.

Music this week is “Why I Won’t Get You a Beer”, by Tom Smith from The Funny Music Project website.

Promos include The ScapeCast and The Legacy of Morevi.

Special promotion for the Blood Drive for Joe at Dragon Con.

PodCulture 59: We Three Geeks – Part A

Posted on Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

The PodCulture Crew welcomes Ashlee back into the studio for another round of punishment (Remember the Turkey and Gravy Jones Soda incident from episode 40?).

Fresh from Comic Con in San Diego, Ashlee tells us of the WOW inspired, “Looking For Group” as Glenn eagerly awaits the newest expansion, “Wrath of the Litch King”. Quite numerically, Glenn’s been watching 300 and The Number 23, Brad and Christina are watching Babylon 5, and all are looking forward to Halo 3.

We announce the winners of the Transformers Armada “Name the Culture Cruiser” contest! Listen to find out who wins! Alas, we only have one dvd to give away, but the two runners up will also receive goodies!

What’s in your DVD player this week? We talk about upcoming series, including Flash Gordon, The Bionic Woman, and Moonlight. All have been found on various bit torrent sites, and the group debates about whether or not they were “leaked” on purpose to generate buzz. Ashlee, who has quickly become our resident Webisode Expert, talks about “Sanctuary” (which features Stargate star, Amanda Tapping). Debate rises over The Tick’s second season dvd set, Patrick Warburton, and the quality of the live action show versus the animated.

Geek-n-Tell this week finds Ashlee with Halo 3 books by Eric Nylund, autographs from David Mack, and creator of “Devil’s Panties”, Jennie Breeden. Glenn’s collection of weaponry expands a bit as he brings a Taurus Millenium home from the gun show. Brad and Christina have grown their Webkinz collection, and picked up a collector set of Elvis Pez dispensers (Go on, sing “hunka hunka burnin’ pez”. You know you want to.) They’ve gotten the evilly cute Kubrick Distorted Spawn figure, and gained geek tech with a new squid mic for the iRiver.

Promos this week come courtesy of the ADD Podcast, and Dragon Page-Cover to Cover.
