Our listeners are reminded about the PodCulture Transformers Armada contest. Submit your ideas for what the Culture Cruiser Cavalier Transformer would be. Check out the link on the site for the Wing Command contest from Electronic Arts and FarPoint Media.
Prezzies in the P.O. Box! John from Sofa Dogs sent a plethora of fabulous prezzies! Brad gets a “Wolfman’s Got Nards” t-shirt quoting the movie “Monster Squad“, and John Hughs’ “Reach The Rock“. Glenn receives “Nothing” and “Night of the Creeps” on dvd. Christina is in giddy geek glory with her plush Gir from Invader Zim, and the IFC Greg The Bunny: Best of the Film Parodies.
Geek ‘n Tell finds Christina still knee deep in Webkinz. Brad shows off his Autobot and PodCulture vinyl stickers for the car, both from Custom Vinyl Decals. The Transformers collection grows with mini Unicron and Optimus figures, a Bumblebee for Christina’s desk, Ratchet, Clocker, Skyblast, and Barricade. Brad’s got the X-Port for hard drive data
swapping between the 360 and your pc. Glenn’s picked up a 13 inch, DC Direct Superman figure.
Thanks so very much to Traci for our Geek Cuisine this week! Carnival Skittles!
We include the skit, “Skiffy Turrets”, and close with having seen Transformers a second time, along with Harry Potter, and looking forward to Star Trek: Undiscovered Country at the Baxter. Glenn’s excited about the relaunch of the Thor comic, and fearful of the Green Hornet film. The trio conclude with thoughts on Harry Potter-Order of the Phoenix.
Two special promos include Chuck Tomasi’s (from ChuckChat.com) charity event for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and the Blood Drive For Joe at Dragon Con.
Our musical interlude this week comes from Beatnik Turtle, the perfectly appropriate for PodCulture Central, “What’s Going On Upstairs”.

The Culture Crew is introduced this week by Firefly’s beloved Shepherd Book, Ron Glass.
Between office work and dental work, Brad and Christina have been busy bunnies, and Glenn is happy to return to raiding in World of Warcraft. Christina notes that she heard someone in the lobby coffee shop humming the PodCulture Theme.
Glenn’s been playing Stalker:Shadow of Chernobyl, and buying flash drives for his Ready Boost on Vista. Brad picked up Transformers for the 360, Resident Evil 4 for the Wii. Glenn’s looking forward to Bioshock, (which he likens to Mon-El of Superman cannon) Soul Calibur 4, and Halo 3, and has reserved a copy of Crysis. Christina is still hooked on Webkinz, and eagerly awaits MySims for the Wii.
PodCulture announces its first contest! Win the Transformers Armada dvd! If the Culture Cruiser (a blue 2005 Chevy Cavalier) happened to be a Transformer (either Autobot or Decepticon), what would it be? E-mail us at: CONTEST (at) PodCulture.net with a Transformer name and/or character description, and be entered in the contest! The winner will be announced August 5th.
Our geekness takes a musical turn this week, as we discuss what we’ve been singing along with. Brad’s bought Jeremy Camp’s “Beyond Measure”, “Saturday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits”, and “Selected Hits” by Collin Raye, then we mention his song,“Love, Me”. Glenn has downloaded some videos, including Emma Bunton’s “Downtown” cover, and we discuss the merits of downloading music and videos. Christina’s listening to Scissor Sisters, thanks to both BBCAmerica, and Doctor Who. Glenn finds that T’Pau making a comeback.
Geek Cuisine is Jelly Belly Soda Shoppe jelly beans, and they wash it all down with Diet Pepsi Max and Jolt Cola.
Thanks to Beatnik Turtle for the PodCulture Theme and incidental music.
Promos include J.C. Hutchins 7th Son podio book, Geek Cred, and Borderline (listen for cameos by the PodCulture Crew)!
The Culture Crew welcomes Ryan back for yet another episode of fun and frolic geekstyle!
We open this week with what we’ve been up to, and for Brad and Christina that means the season finale of Doctor Who. The reviews range from flimsy to fantastic, but they’re both anticipating the companion-swapping season 4. Glenn’s been watching Buck Rogers, and we marvel at how 30 years can’t change cheese.
Geek Cuisine is wonderfully provided by David, in the form of Dark Chocolate 3 Musketeers bars! Thanks so very much, David!
Geek ‘n’ Tell finds us axle deep in Transformers! Glenn’s picked up the Unleashed Figure of Bumblebee, The Batman matchbox car, and the Marvel Legends Icons figure of Doctor Doom. Ryan, having finally completed his Transformers collection, comes away with only a keychain. Christina and Brad expand their collection several fold with a handful of figures, including Ironhide, Starscream, Arcee, and the Micro Machine figures. They’ve also collected a Captain America (For President!) shirt, and an Autobot symbol shirt. Brad has given a home to the Battlestar Galactica novel entitled Unity, and the complete (short lived) series Point Pleasant.
Guilty Pleasures is a duet this week, as Ryan and Glenn review Escape from Galaxy 3! We dare you not to be morbidly curious about this one!
Thank you very much to Emily From Ohio, with her call-in review of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer!
Promos this time around come from the Podiobook novel “Heaven – Season Three: Earth“, The 9th-A Heroescast, and from Indiana Jim with his Things Are Looking Up podcast.
Click your seatbelts and hold on tight, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride as The PodCulture Crew are joined by their friend, Ryan, for the Summer Movie Special!
Brad and Christina enjoyed their 4th of July with a double dose of sci-fi, seeing Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Transformers, Glenn has spent more time working than he’d like, and Ryan is in town from New York.
Glenn and Ryan review Live Free Die Hard, which opens up a discussion about MPAA ratings, and how they’ve been approached by movie makers, and how we’ve evolved as an audience. Although they haven’t seen it yet, Christina laments the lack of Alan Rickman, and Brad’s interest is piqued by the cameo by Kevin Smith.
All four have seen Fantastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer, and enjoyed it, but there were some nit-picks by the boys. Despite the eye candy of Jessica Alba, they dislike the portrayal of Doctor Doom. The guys disagree with the avoidance of Galactus and speculate the character decisions, but all agree that Laurence Fishburne’s talent shone through the silver.
There’s no disguising the blockbuster hit, Transformers, and we all loved it. The boys, having liked the cartoon as a kid, were suspicious before the release, but came out wonderfully impressed. Christina, who already enjoyed Shia LaBeouf in Constantine, loved it. We talk about the crossover with G.I. Joe, special effects, military portrayal, Michael Bay, the soundtrack and just about everything else under the hood of this summer hit.
Promos include Cup Car Update, and musical guest is Luke Ski with “The Ballad of Optimus Prime”. Transform and roll out!
The trio find themselves back on Geek Island as we are introduced, this week, by William Mapother, better known as Ethan on Lost.
We begin with Geek ‘n’ Tell, as Glenn talks about Black Summer by Warren Ellis, then recalls Pantheon by Lonestar Press, for which he has colored some covers. This opens the debate about whether or not comics, and other forms of entertainment, should carry a political message. Glenn’s new computer is initiated with the game Stalker:Shadow of Chernobyl.
Brad has added to his music collections this week with Big Dog Daddy by Toby Keith, and Bon Jovi’s Lost Highway. Christina has listened to Sandi Thom’s Smile…It Confuses People. (Christina would like to correct her misspeaking. Sandi Thom is Scottish, not English, as was stated.)
In addition, Brad’s acquired the Star Wars episode of Robot Chicken, as well as a swanky new Spiderman rubber duck for the web-slinger-themed bathroom. Christina gets a brief geek about her new Old School Sesame Street dvds. Brad is happy with his Doctor Who books which include Paul Cornell’s Human Nature and Goth Opera, and The Plotters by Gareth Roberts. Brad ends with a bang, introducing his Buffy comic lithograph, autographed by both artist Jo Chen, and near-diety Joss Whedon.
Get your guilty on! This week Glenn’s Guilty Pleasure is Alive! From the director that brought us Azumi and Versus, Alive has been likened to Cube, and The Crow. Glenn is especially cryptic, as to keep us all spoiler-free
We appreciate our listeners as we announce what’s been in our P.O. Box. Extra special thanks to Mike B for the giddily geeksome X-Files magazines for Christina, and Guyver 2-Dark Hero dvd for Glenn. Once again Mark earns a regeneration of gratitude for the series 3 Doctor Who episodes on dvd.
Listener E-mail comes from Emily in Ohio from The 3 Heroes podcast, discussing Red Dwarf, and Doctor Who. David writes in about Lost and the Sci-Fi anime of Tokko and Ghost In The Shell. Michael shares his thoughts on the finales of Lost, Heroes, and Veronica Mars.
We discuss what’s hopping on the PodCulture Forums, as CapnFatpants and Freehold South discuss Smallville, Heroes, Lost, and Veronica Mars. We talk about whether or not we jump on the bandwagon when new shows gain mass appeal.
Tell us? Did you love Heroes from episode one? Did you find Lost late? What makes you steer clear, or get sucked in to mainstream popular shows?
Promos this week come graciously from Technorama, Sci-Fi Smackdown, and George Hrab’s Geologic Podcast.
We thought, on the cusp of July, Beatnik Turtle’s “Take It Down” was an appropriate musical spot.
